  • Teamsters understand the value in union membership. Higher pay, better benefits, and a greater voice in the workplace are standards set by union members that won’t be given up without a fight, even after the Supreme Court’s decision in the “Janus v. AFSCME” case.

    While it is true that this ruling may create temporary roadblocks, public employees throughout the United States need to remain unified. We cannot allow the progress working people have made in union to be slowed down because of lawsuits that disregard the value of public employees.

    The Janus decision came about because anti-employee forces spent millions of dollars on lobbying and court challenges for over 40 years. Attacks from these outside groups, backed by secret donors, seek to eliminate the freedom of public employees to negotiate with their employer over the value of their work.

    Many Teamster members around the country have held conversations with their co-workers about the impact of the Supreme Court decision to reinforce the value of remaining unified. Whether at the worksite or at the ballot box, members are fighting back against these attacks.

    Public sector Teamsters have made it their career to serve their country and community, and any attempt to take away their freedom to join together is an attack on those who are the foundation of America.

    Our middle class was built by everyday working people, standing together in union. The Teamsters honor that history by continuing the fight to give working people the promise of the American dream.

    That won’t end with the Janus decision. The Teamsters will continue to organize, mobilize, and do whatever is necessary to achieve prosperity through collective action.

At 3:41 p.m. on Monday July 6, 2020, Local 2086 and 1309 members responded to a reported construction site on fire with heavy fire/smoke conditions present and people with injuries near the intersection of Riverscape Ct. & Channel Dr. in Unincorporated Douglas County.
Cherokee Trail Brush Fire
07/06/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Just before sunset on July 4th, Local 2086 and 1290 from Aurora responded to a brush fire at the corner of Cherokee Trail and Chambers Way in Arapahoe County. When members arrived, they found thick vegetation burning behind an apartment building. Because of difficult ground access for hose lines, an aerial ladder was used to spray water into the burn area to extinguish the flames.

On the afternoon of July 4th, Local members responded to a small bush on fire in the Chatridge 2 burn scar, while simultaneously investigating several reports of smoke west of Wadsworth between Waterton and Deer Creek Canyons. To assist in the search for hot spots, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control’s Multi Mission Aircraft was requested for a reconnaissance mission.

Local members got an early start to Independence Day after a person driving by at 12:45 a.m. reported a house on fire in the 21100 block of E. Whitaker Dr. in Arapahoe County. Sheriff Deputies were first to arrive, they woke up the residents who safely evacuated. Members arrived a short time later and extinguished a fire burning up the side of the home before it could extend inside.

Chatfield State Park Brush Fire

Just before 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, Local members responded to a brush fire at the Chatfield State Park Campground. A plume of smoke was visible from several miles away. Park Rangers evacuated the immediate area and the Douglas County contract helicopter was launched as a precaution.

Just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday July 1, 2020, Local members responded to a report of haze and smoke odor inside a home at 7044 E. Appleton Circle in Centennial. When members arrived, there was nothing visible from the street, but smoke was found inside. After investigating, a neighboring unit was found charged with smoke and a full structure fire response was dispatched.
Elmhurst Dr. Brush Fire
07/02/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 3:45 on Wednesday afternoon, Local members responded to numerous reports of a brush fire burning in the open space behind 7573 W. Elmhurst Drive in Jefferson County. Upon arrival, gusty winds were spreading the fire at a moderate rate, prompting a call for more equipment and personnel. By 4 p.m.
E470 Brush Fire
07/02/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 11 a.m. on Wednesday July 1, 2020, Local members responded to a small brush fire burning in between E-470 and Liberty Blvd. west of Peoria St. When members from Engine 44 arrived on scene, they found 2-3 separate fires burning and spreading to the north of the highway. The fire was upgraded to a large brush fire, bringing additional suppression units to the scene.

Derby Headquarters will be at the dock area of The Veteran’s Rest Camp on the southwest side of the lake. There is a launch there that we'll plan to use but it is shallow.  If you have a bigger boat we recommend the public launch on the north end of the lake off Mayberry Trail, or the County Park just south of the Veteran's Rest Camp.

Just before 10 a.m. on Monday June 29, 2020, multiple 911 callers reported a brush fire on the east side of Highway 85 at Chatridge Drive in Douglas County. When Local 2086 members arrived, they found several acres already burning with a flame front moving at a moderate to rapid rate of spread to the northeast.

Press Release June 25, 2020 The Norwalk Fire Department responded to kitchen fire in a 3rd floor apartment, of 9-11 Wall Street, at 5:39pm Thursday evening. Firefighters forced their way into the unoccupied apartment and finished extinguishing the fire, that the sprinkler had kept in check.

At 3:11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24th, Local members responded to a collision involving an overturned vehicle on Cottonwood Drive just east of Chambers Road. Parker Police Officers were first to arrive, they found a truck on its side with heavy damage and the driver trapped inside. Stabilization struts were used to secure the truck so it wouldn’t move while members assessed the patient.

At 1:37 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23rd, Local members responded to a vehicle collision involving two structures on Kendall Court in Castle Pines North. The vehicle entered a garage and drove through a wall, damaging 3 separate garages in the building.

University Blvd Shed Fire

At 6:17 p.m. on Sunday June 14, 2020, Local members responded to a reported house fire at 6350 S. University Blvd. in Centennial. While enroute, crews observed a plume of smoke from several blocks away. Upon arrival, members found one shed fully engulfed with fire, extending to another shed and fence. The fire was quickly extinguished, no injuries occurred, and the home was not damaged.
Big Stone Drive Structure Fire

Working smoke alarms alerted a family to fire burning in their garage just after 2 a.m. on Sunday June 14th. Local members responded to the home on Big Stone Drive in Douglas County and found smoke visible on arrival. Members cut a large hole in the garage door to access the fire, which was quickly extinguished.
Academy 20-1 Hell Night

During the evening of Friday June 12th into the early morning hours of Saturday June 13th, South Metro Fire Academy Recruits from class 20-1 experienced “Hell Night.” A long-standing tradition at SMFR, the night is filled with a variety of training calls that put the soon to be probationary firefighters to the test.
Norwood Drive Brush Fire

At 12:46 p.m. on Saturday, June 13th, Local members responded to a vegetation fire along the railroad tracks west of Norwood Drive and Highway 85 in Douglas County. Members found a slow-moving grass fire and used hand tools and water pump backpacks to extinguish it. No structures were threatened, and no injuries occurred. https://www.southmetro.
